¿no celebrarás conmigo
lo que he convertido en
una forma de vida? no tuve modelo.
nací en babilonia
no soy blanca y soy mujer
¿qué vi para no ser sino yo misma?
yo lo hago
aquí sobre este puente entre
la arcilla y el cielo estrellado,
con una mano sujeto con fuerza
mi otra mano; ven y celebra
conmigo que todos los días
algo ha querido matarme
y ha fallado.

what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.
